Assistant Prop Master

Second-in-command of Props: schedule, crew, store and problem-solving under the Prop Master — UK Props grade; confirm title on the call sheet and deal memo.

Duties

• Read the call sheet and sides before arriving
• Maintain radio/set etiquette and H&S
• Hand over notes/kit status at wrap
• Support Prop Master on breakdown and schedule
• Help crew selection and day-to-day running
• Coordinate with Storeman and dressing team
• Chase prop makes and hires to deadline
• Assist wrap returns and disposals

Dressing and standby teams, Storeman, Coordinator, Set Decorator

Career path

Chargehand Dresser / Supervising Standby Props → Assistant Prop Master → Prop Master

Day to day

Run daily props plan; cover store/dressing gaps; chase makers/hires; deputise on set when PM is elsewhere.

Call times

Dressing props frequently pre-call for dress/strike; standby props match unit call and wrap with camera. Store and run days before first shoot can be long — check standby vs dressing call.

What to wear

Blacks on set; boots in store/stage; gloves for handling; smart-casual in prep meetings.

Radio, inventory lists, measuring tape, labelling kit.
