Directors department – film & TV roles

• Director

  Leads the creative vision on set: performance, coverage and tone, working closely with the 1st AD and DoP.

• Second Unit Director

  Directs second unit — action, inserts, establishers and stunts — matching the main unit's style.

• Showrunner / Series Director

  Holds the creative lead across a series — sets tone, casting and style for the episode directors (UK usage varies).

• Episode Director

  Directs a block of episodes in a TV series within the style set by the series lead.

• Director's Assistant

  Supports the Director with notes, schedules, research and correspondence on and off set.

• Shadow Director

  Trainee director shadowing a block — often a funded scheme; may direct a scene under supervision.
